FAI 5 a side Soccer

19th Apr 2023

5th and 6th class boys had a fantastic day at the FAI 5 aside Soccer Finals held in Abbeycartron today.

In the quarter final the boys played outstanding overcoming a very strong Stonepark team. Our semi-final saw us come up against our neighbours and tournament favourites St. Mary's N.S. Drumlish. Our boys took the lead with over five minutes to go. After some brilliant defending, Drumlish equalised on the last kick of the game which brought the match to Golden Goal. After a tense five minutes, no team could score which led us to dreaded penalties. Adam, Jeremy and Sean all stepped up to take their penalties and all scored. Kian Caughey pulled off a super safe to send us to the Final. In the final, we once again faced the same opposition in St. Mary's N.S  Drumlish but a different group of players.    Drumlish took an early lead but our lads like they did all day, never gave up and equalised with a well taken goal with five minutes to go. Unfortunately with the last free kick of the game, Drumlish scored the winner.    We want to wish St. Mary's N.S. the very best of luck as they progress to represent Longford in Leinster. Our team who consisted of Oran Flanagan, Conor O' Brien, Darragh Callaghan, Jeremy Prendergast, Séan Trapp, Adam Dolan, Kian Caughey and Captain Nataniel Wojtowic displayed great characteristics such as hardwork, heart and determination all day along with excellent manners and huge respect for their opposition. Well done to our boys and all at St. Teresa's N.S. are very proud of you.
