We have a long tradition in our school of playing basketball. Every summer in the build up to Sport’s Day, Mrs. Connerton runs a boys and girls basketball tournament for all children from 4th to 6th class. The final is always held on Sports Day.
Our school also has boys’ and girls’ basketball teams taking in children from 5th and 6th class. We compete very well every year in the Supermacs Primary School tournament that takes place in the Mall in Longford. In 2018-2019 school calendar year, our boys and girls both reached their respective finals only to be pipped by 1 point in both finals. In the 2019-2020 school calendar year, we had qualified for both boys’ and girls’ finals but due to COVID19 it was not played. Lots of teachers have helped coach our basketball teams down through the years including Mrs. Dervilla Fox and Master Harte and in recent years Mr. Niall Mulligan and Mr. Daniel Mimnagh takes the boys team and Ms. Cora Kieran and Mr. Emmet Toher takes the girls team.
